The Golden Eagle Festival is an annual celebration of the ancient art of eagle hunting that takes place in Western Mongolia. This festival is a unique and unforgettable experience that offers a glimpse into a way of life that has remained unchanged for centuries.
Day 1 – October 3: Arrival in Ulgii
– Fly from Ulaanbaatar (UB) to Ulgii (approx. 2 hours flight).
– Arrival in Ulgii: Your team will welcome you at the airport.
– Short town introduction: Get acquainted with the local culture and environment.
– Local Bazaar and Souvenir Shops: Take time to visit the vibrant local markets and pick up authentic handicrafts.
– Kazakh Traditional Concert: Enjoy a special performance, including throat singing (a unique art of the Kazakh people). – Overnight at a hotel in Ulgii.l
Day 2-3 – October 4-5: Golden Eagle Festival
– Day 2 (Oct 4):
– Golden Eagle Festival Opening Ceremony: Witness the grand opening, where eagle hunters showcase their birds in a thrilling display of skill and tradition.
– Traditional Concert: After the festival, enjoy a local concert at the local theater featuring music and dance.
– Overnight at a hotel in Ulgii.
– Day 3 (Oct 5):
– Golden Eagle Festival Day 2:
– Participate in local traditional games such as horse racing, tug-of-war, and more. Watch the eagle hunters compete in various events showcasing their eagle hunting skills.
– Closing Ceremony: The festival concludes with the closing ceremony, celebrating the rich traditions of the Kazakh people.
– Overnight at a hotel in Ulgii.

Day 4 – October 6: Drive to Tolbo Village & Meet the Eagle Hunters
– Drive to Tolbo Village (approx. 2-3 hours from Ulgii):
– Along the way, we will make a stop at Tolbo Lake, a stunning freshwater lake located at an altitude of 2,080 meters. Known as 100 Kazan (100 Pots), the lake is famous for its deep, pot-shaped formations.
– Enjoy the scenic beauty of Tolbo Lake, which covers an area of 185 square kilometers.
– Arrival at Kazakh Eagle Hunter Family:
– You’ll be welcomed by a local nomadic family and get the chance to observe their way of life.
– Experience the “Five Fingers” Ceremony: A traditional Kazakh feast to honor guests, followed by singing and dancing with the family and other members of your group.
– Overnight in nomadic family house rooms and/or shared yurts.
Day 5 – October 7: Real Eagle Hunting Activities
– Start Real Hunting:
– Experience traditional eagle hunting with Kazakh eagle hunters. You will participate in the hunt, where the eagles are used to chase and catch animals like foxes, rabbits, and mountain cats.
– Horseback riding: Everyone will ride horses alongside the hunters as they release their golden eagles to chase prey.
– Support vehicles: Will accompany the group in case anyone prefers to travel by car or needs a rest.
– Enjoy the exhilarating experience of being part of this ancient hunting tradition.
– Overnight with the same nomadic family in their house or yurts.
Day 6 – October 8: Continue Eagle Hunting & Return to Ulgii
– Continue Hunting:
– You will have another day of eagle hunting in the stunning Mongolian wilderness.
– As the day progresses, continue to enjoy the unique and exciting activities with the eagle hunters.
– Return to Ulgii:
– In the late afternoon, drive back to Ulgii.
– Overnight at a hotel in Ulgii.
Day 7 – October 9: Departure from Ulgii
– Fly back to Ulaanbaatar (UB):
– Transfer to the Ulgii or Khovd Airport for your flight back to Ulaanbaatar.
