ALTAI TREKKING TOUR IN WESTERN MONGOLIA

Day 1. Fly from UB to Ulgii, where we will pick you up from the airport. We’ll start with a short introduction to the town before heading to a Halal restaurant or our ger camp for brunch. Afterward, we’ll depart from Ulgii and drive towards the Ranger station of Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain, also known as the Holy Five Peaks. The driving time is approximately 5-6 hours.
Once we reach the Ranger station, located at an elevation of about 2700 meters above sea level, you’ll have the opportunity to witness the lifestyle of the Tuvan nomads, a small ethnic group in Mongolia. This cultural encounter will give you insights into their unique way of life.
For your overnight stay, you can choose between a traditional ger or a tent, allowing you to fully appreciate the breathtaking surroundings of the Altai Mountains.


Day 2. Embark on a trek to the Base camp with camels loaded with food and equipment. The Base camp is located approximately 17 kilometers from the Ranger station, and it takes about 6-7 hours to reach it on foot. Along the way, we will stop to have lunch in the scenic riverside and mountainous areas.
Upon reaching the Base camp of Tavan Bogd Mountain, the highest peaks in Mongolia and a region that connects Mongolia, China, and Russia, we will set up overnight tents for accommodation. During your stay at the Base camp, you can enjoy delicious meals including breakfast, lunch, and dinner.


Day 3. Start your day with an early morning climb to Malchin Peak, which stands at an altitude of 4050 meters. This magnificent peak is positioned directly on the border line between Russia and Mongolia. The unique aspect of this mountain is that it can be climbed without requiring any special equipment, apart from sturdy hiking boots. Our experienced tour guide will lead the group as high as possible, taking into consideration the fluctuating weather conditions.
Enjoy the exhilarating trekking experience while taking in the stunning views along the way. Afterward, we will return to the Base camp, where we will spend the night in our comfortable tents, allowing you to rest and rejuvenate for the next day’s adventures.


Day 4. On this day, we will begin our trek back down towards the Ranger station. The journey will bring us back to the starting point of our adventure. Once we arrive at the Ranger station, we will settle in for the night, where you will have the option of staying in either tents or gers (traditional Mongolian dwellings). The choice of accommodation will provide you with a comfortable and authentic experience as you reflect on the incredible memories made during your time in the Altai Mountains.


Day 5. Embark on a trek to the Black Valley, with camels carrying the necessary food and equipment. As we make our way through this picturesque landscape, we will reach the Black Valley camp nestled by the river and surrounded by snow-covered mountains. Prepare for an overnight stay in comfortable tents, where you can immerse yourself in the tranquil beauty of this stunning location.


Day 6. Today, you will embark on a thrilling trek from Bear Valley Pass to Takhilt Pass, also known as Dead Pass. This pass stands out as one of the most elevated and challenging routes on your tour. As you make your way, expect awe-inspiring views of snow-capped mountains and expansive forests. To fully immerse yourself in this experience, you will spend the night in cozy tents nestled by the White River. This camping spot promises a tranquil ambiance surrounded by the beauty of the snowy peaks and towering trees.


Day 7. After completing your trek through Bear Valley Pass and Takhilt Pass, your journey will continue to Aksu Valley. Along the way, you will come across the mesmerizing Heart Lake, surrounded by picturesque snow-capped mountains and lush valleys with abundant trees. Once you arrive in Aksu Valley, your driver will be awaiting your arrival. From there, you will be introduced to your guides and the means of transportation for this leg of your adventure – camels and horses.
In Aksu Valley, you will have the opportunity to explore the enchanting landscape, with the three rivers that converge in this region. Your overnight accommodation will consist of comfortable tents, providing a unique camping experience under the starry night sky. Throughout your stay, you will be provided with hearty meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) to fuel your exploration and keep you energized for the days ahead.


Day 8. Today, you will embark on a scenic drive to Hoton Hurgan Nuur and eventually reach Baga Turgen Valley. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to stop by the picturesque lakes area and witness the fascinating petroglyphs, which are ancient rock arts dating back to the Bronze Age.
Upon arriving at Hoton Hurgan Nuur, you will have the chance to interact with a Kazakh nomadic family. Immerse yourself in their rich culture and traditions as you join them for a delightful dinner featuring a traditional meal known as the Five Finger Feast. Experience the warmth of their hospitality as you engage in a joyful evening of singing songs together.
For your overnight stay, you will have the unique opportunity to sleep in a traditional Kazakh ger, a portable dwelling. Rest peacefully in this tranquil setting, surrounded by the stunning landscape of Baga Turgen Valley. Throughout your stay, you will be provided with meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) to complete your nomadic experience.


Day 9. After a delightful stay with the Kazakh nomadic family, your adventure continues with a hike to Ih Turgen Valley. This scenic hike will lead you to a mesmerizing waterfall flowing down from the glacier mountains, cascading onto large rocks. Prepare to be enchanted by the natural beauty surrounding you.
On your way back, you will have the opportunity to visit a Kazakh eagle hunter family. Observe their incredible bond with their majestic golden eagles and gain insight into the unique lifestyle of eagle hunters. Learn about their traditions, skills, and the ancient art of eagle hunting.
As the day comes to an end, you will return to the same Kazakh nomadic family you previously visited. This warm and welcoming family will be delighted to host you once again for an overnight stay in their traditional Kazakh ger. Enjoy the comfort of this cultural abode and indulge in delicious meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) that will be provided to enhance your experience and keep you energized for the next leg of your journey.


Day 10. Today, you will bid farewell to the beautiful landscapes of the Kazakh nomadic region and make your way back to Ulgii. The journey will take approximately 5-6 hours by road. Once in Ulgii, you will have the opportunity to attend a traditional Kazakh wedding ceremony, immersing yourself in the vibrant cultural festivities.
For your overnight stay, you have the option of either staying at a camp or a hotel in Ulgii, depending on your preference. Whichever accommodation you choose, rest assured that you will be provided with meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) to satisfy your appetite and ensure a comfortable stay.
